Gert Jõeäär wins Tour of Estonia 2013

Today, on the 1st of June, the final stage of the Tour of Estonia 2013 - Tartu Grand Prix (12x12,5 km) took place. In the group finish, Bartlomiej Matysiak (CCC Polsat Polkowice) was the first to cross the finish line with time 3:21:34. The historical overall victory of the first tour went to Gert Jõeäär, racing for National Team Estonia.

Gert Jõeäär states: “It was an enjoyable ride today! Team did everything it had to do and thanks to the team I won the tour! Team did a great job and everyone gave maximum. What makes the victory special is that it is the first tour and I won it. It’s wonderful!” Jõeäär also adds that tomorrow’s cyclosportif SEB 32nd Tartu Rattaralli is a very important competition for Estonians and he will be also in the start.

Today’s stage winner, Bartlomiej Matysiak (Poland): “It is the first win for me this year, I am very pleased. Today is very special! From all the stages of Tour of Estonia today’s race I liked the most.” Matysiak says also that the victory came thanks to the teamwork - team members worked for him today.

The tour’s best young rider was Swedish rider Fredrik Ludvigsson whose team Team People4you - Unaas Cycling was pronounced as the best team of Tour of Estonia 2013.

Ludvigsson recognizes his team: “I have a great team, our race was strong. We were very successful as a team during the tour.” Today was hard for him: “I had some mechanical problems and the day was hard but I’m happy over the victory!” Ludvigsson finished second after Gert Jõeäär in general classification of the Tour of Estonia.

King of the Mountains of Tour of Estonia is Polish Mateusz Komar from BDC Marcpol Team. General classification on points went to Leonid Krasvon (Rusvelo).

The race director Indrek Kelk summarizes the tour: “First positive emotions came during the 1b stage in Tallinn old town. And when Gert won the first stage, one could proudly say: for Estonians the tour went well. We hope the Tour of Estonia will give a considerable push for cycling in Estonia and inspires people even more to ride.”

Kelk finishes ambitiously: “Gert proved with his team that National Team Estonia is able to ride on the same level with pro-continental teams. Why not to set a goal for the future: a team Estonian Global Cycling Project.”

Tartu Grand Prix was the last stage of the Tour of Estonia 2013 (UCI 2.1) but tomorrow, on the 2nd of June SEB 32nd Tartu Rattaralli will take place with over 4200 cyclists, including the winner of the Tour of Estonia, Gert Jõeäär.
