Tour of Estonia 2018 starts tomorrow

On Friday morning the UCI 2.1 category race Tour of Estonia 2018 gets underway with the Tallinn-Tartu GP. Looking at the start lists it seems that the Estonian National Team is the strongest one out of 15 teams and over 100 cyclists.

Estonia’s team is lead by Rein Taaramäe who on a daily basis rides for a French Pro Continental team Direct Energie. It will be Taaramäe’s first Tour of Estonia. „I think my form is good, but I’m not too confident. I’ve trained a lot in the mountains lately and because of that I have a little bit less power ’cause I’ve lost some weight. It could be crucial here,“ Taaramäe said in the pre-race press conference. „Obviously I would like to win here, but I can also greatly help our team,“ he added.

Team Estonia’s head coach and cycling legend Jaan Kirsipuu said that the home team is ready for glory. „On a paper, we should be strong and I think we are because all of our cyclists should be in good form,“ Kirsipuu said.

The only Pro Continental team in this year’s Tour of Estonia is Novo Nordisk (USA). Teams also worth highlighting are Continental Teams Riwal from Denmark and Beat from Netherlands.

This year’s Tour of Estonia will have two stages. Friday’s Tallinn-Tartu GP is 199,5 km long and on Saturday, cyclists will ride in the centre of Tartu (18x9,6 km lap, a total of 172,8 km).

On Sunday, a day after Tour of Estonia, the 37th Tartu Rattaralli will take place. Along with professional cyclists, over 3600 amateurs are expected to participate in 135 and 56 km distances.
