Tour of Estonia

From 30 May to 1 June, the cycling events Tour of Estonia and Tartu Rattaralli will take place on roads across Estonia. In cooperation with the Estonian Transport Administration and local municipalities, the races will bring temporary traffic restrictions in several regions.

 

Below you will find traffic information by date and region. We kindly ask all road users to be extra attentive during these days, follow temporary traffic signs and the instructions of traffic controllers, and be prepared for possible delays along the race routes.

  • Tallinn-Tartu stage (30.05)

    The ceremonial start will be given at 11:00 in the parking lot of Hotel Mercure. Due to the start and the movement of the race convoy, traffic disruptions can be expected on Tartu maantee and surrounding streets from 10:50 to 11:15. Escorted by a police convoy, the group of approximately 150 riders and 60 support vehicles will exit Tallinn via Peetri village and Tallinn–Assaku road. The technical start (0 km) of the race will take place at Vaskjala bridge. For safety, the police will temporarily halt oncoming traffic during the passage of the convoy. Normal traffic will resume after the police vehicle marking the end of the convoy. Disruptions will typically last no more than 8–10 minutes.

     

    The race route: Tallinn – Jüri – Vaida – Alavere – Albu – Aravete – Järva-Jaani – Vaimastvere – Jõgeva – Palamuse – Luua – Lähte – Vasula – Kõrveküla – Tartu.

     

    To ensure the safety of cyclists, please follow traffic signs and instructions from traffic controllers along the entire race route from 11:00 to 16:00.
    Driving in the same direction as the cyclists is allowed, but passing the police car at the end of the convoy is strictly prohibited. The average speed of the race convoy is 40–50 km/h.

     

    Police escort vehicles will temporarily stop oncoming traffic as the cyclists pass. If signalled by police or a traffic controller, please pull over as far to the side as possible, ideally onto the shoulder, and turn on your hazard lights. Traffic interruptions typically last 10–15 minutes.

     

    We kindly recommend avoiding travel on the race route during the indicated time or being prepared for temporary stops. Residents and local businesses are advised to plan movements outside of the cyclists' estimated passage times.

  • Jõgeva (30.05)

    The Tour of Estonia Tallinn–Tartu stage will pass through Jõgeva on 30 May, approximately between 13:50 and 14:30, during which temporary traffic restrictions will apply.

     

    Traffic will be closed on the race route and intersecting streets from the lead vehicle until all riders and support vehicles have passed. Closures will last around 10 minutes, or slightly longer if the gap between the lead group and the last riders has widened. Please follow instructions from traffic controllers and, if possible, avoid driving on the race route during this time.

     

    Parking is prohibited on:
    – Kesk Street from 12:30 to 14:30
    – Suur Street (section between Lao and Kesk) starting in the morning

     

    We kindly ask residents and visitors to plan their movements outside of the cyclists' estimated passage time and to share this information with others in the area.

  • Kõrveküla (30.05)

    The Tour of Estonia Tallinn–Tartu stage will pass through Kõrveküla on 30 May, approximately between 15:00 and 15:40.

     

    Traffic will be closed on the race route and intersecting streets from the lead vehicle until all riders and support vehicles have passed. Closures are expected to last around 20 minutes. Please follow the instructions of traffic controllers and, if possible, avoid driving on the race route during this time.

  • Tartu city (29.05-01.06)

    Traffic restrictions and changes will be in effect across the city of Tartu from Thursday, 29 May to Sunday, 1 June. We kindly ask everyone to avoid travelling on the race routes whenever possible and to share this information with friends and neighbours. Parking on the race routes is prohibited!

     

    • Due to the construction of the race centre, traffic restrictions will apply on Turu Street starting from Thursday, 29 May at 19:00. Please avoid travelling on the section between Soola and Aida Streets from 29 May at 19:00 until 1 June at 22:00, as major restrictions will be in place and traffic will be disrupted.

     

    • Friday, 30 May – the first stage of Tour of Estonia will finish at Toomemägi, Lossi Street, at approximately 15:30. The race convoy will enter the city between 14:50 and 16:00, during which traffic will be temporarily closed on the route for up to 20 minutes. Please follow the instructions of traffic controllers. Parking is prohibited along the entire race route.

    • Saturday, 31 May, the city streets will host the Tartu Rattaralli children's races, the final stage of Tour of Estonia, and the last laps of Ladies Tour of Estonia. Traffic will be closed on the race route from 11:00 to 19:00. Please follow traffic controllers' instructions. Parking is prohibited along the entire race route.

  • Tartu County, Kastre (31.05)

    On 31 May, the professional women's cycling race Ladies Tour of Estonia will take place on the streets of Tartu and the roads of Tartu County.

     

    The start is located on Turu Street in Tartu, and the race route continues through Kastre municipality on the following course:
    Tartu – Haaslava – Igavere – Uniküla – Sillaotsa – Kriimani – Hammaste – Võnnu – Võõpste – Melliste – Poka – Sillaotsa – Päkste – Igavere – Tuigo – Lange – Aardlapalu – Tartu.

     

    Cyclists will be on the roads between 10:30 and 12:45, during which temporary traffic restrictions will apply. Please pay close attention to traffic signs and instructions from traffic controllers along the entire race route!Driving in the same direction as the race is permitted, but passing the police vehicle at the end of the convoy is prohibited. The average speed of the convoy is 40–50 km/h.

  • Tartu, Valga and Põlva County (01.06)

    On Sunday, 1 June, the Tartu Rattaralli race will take place on roads in Southern Estonia, following the route: Tartu – Ülenurme – Külitse – Nõo – Elva – Otepää – Saverna – Ihamaru – Karilatsi – Vana-Kuuste – Aardla – Tartu.

     

    To ensure the safety of participants, temporary traffic changes coordinated with the Estonian Transport Administration will be in effect from 9:15 to 18:30. We kindly ask all road users to follow traffic signs and the instructions of traffic controllers, and to show consideration for the cyclists on the roads.

     

    The most significant restrictions will affect the Jõhvi–Tartu–Valga road between Külitse and Nõo, where traffic toward Tartu will be rerouted via Meeri road and the Viljandi–Tartu highway from 10:00 to 12:30. Traffic from Tartu toward Elva is allowed between rider groups, but overtaking cyclists is not permitted.

     

    Due to the finish area, Tartu road in Ülenurme and the Ülenurme-end of Võru Street in Tartu will be closed to general traffic from 9:30 to 18:00. A detour will be available through Tõrvandi and Rehepapi road.

     

    On the Karilatsi–Vooreküla section of Vana-Võru road (also known as Postitee), only traffic in the same direction as the race (toward Tartu) will be permitted from 12:30 to 16:00.

     

    The rest of the race route will remain open to traffic, with the exception of Tartu city streets. When encountering riders from the opposite direction, please slow down or stop if necessary. If overtaking from behind, be extremely cautious and signal your manoeuvre with a horn.

     

    We recommend avoiding driving on the race route during the event and ask for your understanding. If possible, plan alternative routes and come out to cheer on the cyclists!
